Solid State Digital Video Recorders

BHSPL has partnered with PLR Information Systems (PLRIS), Israel for providing Solid State Digital video recorders. The Digital Video Recording Module (DVRM) is a compact rugged Digital Video and Data Recorder, as well as a Data Transfer System (DTS). The DVRM is designed for use as either a panel mount or “hot plate” mount unit, on Airborne or Ground Vehicles. Capable of recording critical mission video and data for long periods of time, the DVRM provides a very reliable source of video and data recording and transfer. When operating as a DTS the unit is controlled over either the Ethernet 10/100 BTSolid State Digital Video Recorder - SSDVR - DVRM orMil-Std-1553 channels.

The use of a rugged “disk-on-key” as the recording media provides a low power, light weight solution for applications requiring low-cost reliable data storage. Debriefing recorded data is accomplished by either physically removing the Disk-on-Key from the recorder and inserting it into a PC based Debriefing Station, or by downloading the recorded data over the Ethernet channel. Debriefing software is provided using the Integrated Debriefing Environment (IDE). The IDE software package provides synchronized video and data on the same PC screen. Alternatively, recorded video and data can be viewed on separate screens.

Solid State Digital Video Recorder Specifications

Data recorders such as SSDVR or Mission Data Recorder (MDR) which is also known as HDVR (High Definition Video Recorder) on fighter aircraft play a crucial role in safety, performance monitoring, training, maintenance, and compliance with aviation regulations. They provide a comprehensive record of the aircraft’s behavior and performance, aiding in various aspects of aviation operations.

Data recorders on fighter aircraft, serve several crucial purposes:

  1. Accident Investigation: In the unfortunate event of an accident or crash, data recorders capture and store a wide range of flight parameters, including altitude, airspeed, heading, control inputs, and more. This data is crucial for accident investigators to understand the sequence of events leading to the incident and determine its cause.

  2. Performance Monitoring: Apart from Flight data recorders, additional data recorders installed for specific objectives will continuously monitor and record the aircraft’s performance during normal operations. This information helps in assessing the aircraft’s health, identifying any anomalies, and ensuring that it operates within the specified limits.

  3. Training and Analysis: The recorded data is valuable for training purposes. It allows pilots and maintenance crews to review and analyze various flight scenarios, enabling them to improve their skills and enhance operational efficiency. Debrief is an essential part of every sortie and the recorders enable users with rich features for debrief.

  4. System Diagnostics: Data recorders capture information related to the functioning of various systems on the aircraft. This data aids maintenance personnel in diagnosing issues, troubleshooting problems, and conducting preventive maintenance to ensure the aircraft’s optimal performance.

  5. Regulatory Compliance: Aviation authorities often mandate the presence and use of flight data recorders for regulatory compliance and additional recorders for trials to capture audio / video and other parameters as need be. The recorded data helps in ensuring that aircraft operations adhere to safety standards and regulations.

  6. Design and Engineering: Engineers use data recorded from actual flights to validate and improve the design of aircraft and its components. This iterative process helps in enhancing the overall safety and performance of future aircraft models.
